Time for the Nets to give the rookies a chance

Blogged under Rookie Report, Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 3 February 2007 at 9:42 pm

The Nets are in deep trouble right now.   The veterans with the exceptions of Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Mikki Moore are not getting it done.  The Nets need to start both Josh Boone and Marcus Williams starting as soon as possible.  The Nets should move Vince Carter to small forward, play Marcus Williams as shooting guard and Josh Boone up front with Mikki Moore.

Marcus Williams has played well this season for the Nets.  Williams has played in 44 games and is averaging 16.8 minutes, 7.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists.  His shooting could use a little work as he’s only hitting 41.5% from the floor and 31.6% of his three-pointers.  I think those % will go up with more experience.

Josh Boone has played in 27 games this season and he’s averaging 8.8 minutes, 2.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists.  Boone is hitting 53.1% of his shots from the floor.  The Nets need to give Boone more minutes because they need help rebounding or they won’t make the playoffs.

Guard Hassan Adams has played some nice games and deserves an increase in minutes.  He has played in 38 games and he’s averaging 3.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.2 assists.  Adams is shooting great from the floor this season as he’s hitting 56.3% of his shots this season.

Center Mile Ilic has played in 4 games and is averaging just 0.9 minutes and 0.3 rebounds per game.
