The rookies of the New Jersey Nets earn a C+

Blogged under Bloglockers, Rookie Report, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 20 April 2007 at 2:14 pm

The Nets drafted a decent group of rookies as they played decent in their limited action on the floor.  Point guard Marcus Williams played in 79 games and he averaged 16.6 minutes, 6.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.  Williams was a good backup for Jason Kidd and he will eventually be the starter at the point for the Nets when Kidd moves on to another team or retires.  F/C Josh Boone missed the early part of the season as he was still recovering from shoulder surgery, but he’s really stepped his game up late this season.  He played in 61 games this season and he averaged 11.0 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  Look for him to be a valuable reserve for now, but he’s a future starter for the Nets.  G/F Hassan Adams played in 61 games this season and he averaged 8.1 minutes, 2.9 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists.  Look for him to be a valuable reserve in the future for the Nets.  Center Mile Ilic only played in 5 games this season and he only averaged 1.2 minutes and 0.2 rebounds per game.

The 2006-2007 New Jersey Nets by the numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 19 April 2007 at 9:58 am

The New Jersey Nets almost gave up at the trade deadline, but they kept the Nets together and they wound up earning the #6 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.  They will take on division their division rival Toronto Raptors in the first round.  The Nets finished the season with a 41-41 record which was good for second place in the Atlantic Division, 6 games behind the Toronto Raptors.  The Nets were only 24-17 at home, but a solid 17-24 on the road.  The Nets did very well against the Eastern Conference with a 31-21 record and they did well in division games as they were 10-6.  The Nets wound up averaging 97.6 points per game while allowing 98.3.  The Nets finished the season on a 4 game winning streak and they’ve won 8 of their last 10 games so they enter the playoffs hot.

The New Jersey Nets need more from Marcus Williams and Cliff Robinson

Blogged under Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 12 April 2007 at 2:12 pm

The Nets need Cliff Robinson and Marcus Williams to get their butts into gear with the playoffs approaching.  Robinson has played in 3 games this month and he’s only averaging 3.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.  He also is only shooting 33.3% from the floor.  The Nets will need Robinson to give them good minutes in the playoffs if they have any hope of an upset in the first round.  Rookie Marcus Williams has been really stinking it up this month and he’ll need to improve his play or he won’t get much PT in the playoffs.  He’s played in 4 games this month and he’s averaging 3.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.  He only is shooting 26.1% from the floor this month and unless he shoots better than that, he will be sitting on the bench a lot in the near future.

Josh Boone is finally healthy and he’s stepping up at the right time as the Nets are trying to secure a spot in the NBA Playoffs.  In his last 6 games, Boone is averaging 23.0 minutes, 10.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  He’s also shooting an outstanding 60% from the floor in those games.

Bostjan Nachbar really playing well off of the bench for the New Jersey Nets

Blogged under Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 10 April 2007 at 10:12 pm

Bostjan Nachbar has really played well the last couple of weeks for the Nets.  In his last 6 games, Nachbar is averaging 20.8 minutes, 11.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.  Nachbar has hit 50% from the floor and he’s hit 12 of his last 23 (52.2%) three-point shots.  He’s been a really big help to the Nets on their way to the playoffs.
