The New Jersey Nets finally trade Jason Kidd to the Mavericks

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 19 February 2008 at 2:03 pm

The Nets and Mavericks had to change some parts in the proposed Jason Kidd trade and they got it done today. The Nets have traded Jason Kidd, Malik Allen and Antoine Wright to the Mavericks for Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Maurice Ager, Trenton Hassell, Keith Van Horn and first round picks in both 2008 + 2010. The Nets will also receive $3 million bucks. Trenton Hassell has been a defensive stopper in his NBA career and the Nets can definately use a player like him. He played in 37 games (6 starts) this season for the Mavericks and he averaged 12.5 minutes, 2.1 points, 1.2 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Hassell has now played in 513 games (366 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 26.8 minutes, 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Keith Van Horn hasn’t played since the 2005-06 season with the Dallas Mavericks. He has played in 575 games (463 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 31.6 minutes, 16.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. The Nets really wanted to rid themselves of Jason Kidd’s contract but they should have gotten more for him. Devin Harris is the only player that the Nets got in return that probably has a future with the team. The Nets better hope that either the pick in 2008 or 2010 turns out to be higher than the Mavericks usually pick to make this trade a win for them.

Toronto Raptors 109, New Jersey Nets 91

The Nets were outrebounded 41-28 on Wednesday Night and they didn’t play any defense either as the Raptors hit 51.3% of their shots from the floor which explains the defeat. Richard Jefferson only shot 6 of 18 from the floor but he still led the way for the Nets with 15 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Vince Carter also had a poor shooting night (5 of 15) but he finished with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Darrell Armstrong was solid off the bench with 12 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Stromile Swift also had a good game off the bench as he finished with 12 points and 6 rebounds in 19 minutes. The Nets are now 23-30 on the season.

Both trades with the Dallas Mavericks are on hold right now

Both of the trades between the Mavericks and Nets are on hold because Devean George invoked his no-trade clause in his contract. Unless the Nets and Mavericks can talk him into coming to New Jersey, the trades appear to be dead. The Nets value George more because of his expiring contract than anything he can do to help them on the court.

Wright has now played in 143 games (33 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 17.9 minutes, 4.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.

The New Jersey Nets trade Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks

The New Jersey Nets have traded point guard Jason Kidd and forward Malik Allen to the Dallas Mavericks for Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Devean George, Maurice Ager, $3 million bucks and first round picks in both 2008 and 2010. Kidd was not having his best season this year with the Nets. Kidd played in 51 games (all starts) for the Nets this season and he averaged 37.2 minutes, 11.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 10.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He shot only 36.6% from the floor, 35.6% from three point range and 82% from the free throw line. Malik Allen played in 48 games (12 starts) this season for the Nets and he averaged 15.9 minutes, 5.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. He shot 47.5% from the floor and 92.3% from the free throw line this season.

Devin Harris was the key to the deal for the Nets. He will replace Jason Kidd as the starting point guard for the Nets. Harris (25 years old) played in 39 games (all starts) for the Mavericks this season and he was averaging 30.4 minutes, 14.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Harris also is a solid shooter from everywhere on the court as he has nailed 48.3% of his shots from the floor, 35.7% from the three point line and 82.1% from the free throw line. Harris has now played in 251 games in his NBA career and he is averaging 22.8 minutes, 9.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. 33-year old Jerry Stackhouse will likely get bought out by the Nets. He played in 39 games (2 starts) for the Mavericks this season and he averaged 24.0 minutes, 9.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. His shooting was off a little bit this season as he was only shooting 38.9% from the floor, 28% from the three point line and 88% from the free throw line. Stackhouse has now played in 825 games (551 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 33.8 minutes, 18.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. DeSagana Diop will bring size and defense to the Nets. He played in 50 games (18 starts) for the Mavericks this season and he averaged 17.4 minutes, 3.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. Diop has now played in 405 games (77 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 14.7 minutes, 2.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 1.2 blocks per game. Reserve guard/forward Devean George played in 26 games (1 start) for the Mavericks this season and he was averaging 13.2 minutes, 3.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. George has now played in 515 games (84 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 18.9 minutes, 5.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Young Maurice Ager was the final player the Nets acquired from the Mavs. He has played in 12 games (3 starts) this season for the Mavericks and he was averaging 6.4 minutes, 1.3 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game. Ager has now played in 44 games (4 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 6.6 minutes, 1.9 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.
