25-year old center Nenad Krstic is leaving the Nets to play basketball overseas. Krstic has had injuries the last couple of seasons that have hurt his output. He played in 45 games (38 starts) for the Nets last season and he averaged 18.0 minutes, 6.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Krstic played 4 seasons with the Nets covering 226 games (201 starts) in which he averaged 27.0 minutes, 11.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. The Nets likely won’t miss Krstic too much as they have brought in some new big bodies for the 2008-09 season.

The New Jersey Nets trade Marcus Williams to Golden State

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Tuesday 22 July 2008 at 6:05 pm

The Nets figured that they are solid with Devin Harris and Keyon Dooling at point guard and that part of the reasoning for the trade of Marcus Williams to the Warriors. The Nets will receive a future 1st round pick for Williams. Williams played in 53 games (7 starts) last season for the Nets and he averaged 16.1 minutes, 5.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. The Nets have soured on Willams who was drafted two seasons ago to eventually replace Jason Kidd in the starting lineup but it never happened. He played in 132 games (9 starts) in two years for the Nets and he averaged 16.4 minutes, 6.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while only shooting 39% from the floor. This is a win-win trade as Williams will get more minutes with the Warriors while the Nets get a future first round pick for a player who wasn’t going to play much for them.

The New Jersey Nets acquire Keyon Dooling from the Magic

The New Jersey Nets have acquired combo guard Keyon Dooling from the Magic for cash considerations. 28-year old Keyon Dooling will provide some pop off the bench for the Nets this season. He played in 72 games (1 start) for the Magic last season and he averaged 18.5 minutes, 8.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Look for Dooling to give the Nets a lot of good minutes in the 2008-09 season off the bench. He has now played in 465 games (36 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 18.5 minutes, 6.8 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. This was a solid move for the Nets who are building a very impressive bench for next season.

Eduardo Najera signs on with the New Jersey Nets

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 12 July 2008 at 12:15 am

32-year old small forward Eduardo Najera has signed a 4-year, $12 million dollar contract with the Nets. Najera will compete for the starting small forward job with Jarvis Hayes and Bobby Simmons this year. Najera played in 78 games (3 starts) with the Nuggets last season and he averaged 21.3 minutes, 5.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Look for Najera to improve on his numbers from last season as the Nets will likely increase his playing time. Najera has now played in 493 games (80 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 19.4 minutes, 5.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. This was another good signing for the Nets who are spreading out there money well.

The New Jersey Nets sign G/F Jarvis Hayes

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 12 July 2008 at 12:10 am

The Nets have signed swingman Jarvis Hayes to a 2-year, $4 million dollar contract. Hayes is 6′8″, 228 pounds and he will probably battle Bobby Simmons and Eduardo Najera for the starting job at small forward for the Net. Hayes played in 82 games (1 start) for the Pistons last season and he averaged 15.7 minutes, 6.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Look for Hayes to play more this season for the Nets and he will do a decent job for them. Hayes has now played in 308 games (95 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 22.8 minutes, 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. This was a very nice signing for the Nets as they got Hayes at a discount price.
