You can’t blame 2nd year center Brook Lopez for the Nets sucking so far this season. He has played in 17 games (all starts) for the Nets so far this season and he is averaging 35.9 minutes, 18.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 2.4 blocked shots per game. With Devin Harris back from injury look for Lopez’ numbers to improve even more as he will see less double teams in the post. The sky is the limit for Lopez who is developing into one of the better centers in the Eastern Conference.

Nets’ GM Kiki Vandeweghe will take over as the new head coach starting this Friday. He has no head coaching experience but he was a good player. Vandeweghe played in 810 games in his NBA career and he averaged 30.3 minutes, 19.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Vandeweghe coached in Dallas with Del Harris who will be his right hand man. The 72-year old Harris was last a head coach during the 1998-99 season for the L.A. Lakers. He has been a head coach in the NBA for 14 years compiling a 556-457 record (54.9%). He also had a 38-50 record (43.2%) in the post season. It will be interesting to see if Vandeweghe & Harris can do any better than Lawrence Frank did.
