New Jersey Nets finally wake-up; avoid worst record in NBA history

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Steppin Up by Andrew on Wednesday 31 March 2010 at 12:34 am

The New Jersey Nets have been the laughing stock of the NBA this season, and it looked like they were on their way to setting a very embarrassing record.  Earlier this month the Nets only had 6 wins on the season with only 21 games left to play.  The worst record in NBA history was set by the 1972-’73 Philadelphia 76ers, when they finished that season at 9-73.  The Nets were getting dangerously close to that record, but they finally figured out how to put a few wins together over the past week and avoided the shame of being the worst team in NBA history.  Going into their matchup with the Sacramento Kings on March 24th, they were 7-63.  They went on to an easy 93-79 victory that night, led by Devin Harris and his 24 points, 9 assists, and 4 rebounds.  They followed that up with another convincing 118-110 win over the Detroit Pistons two nights later.  Brook Lopez was a beast in that game with 37 points, 10 rebounds, and 1 block.  The Nets got their third win in four games on Monday night, beating the San Antonio Spurs 90-84 behind Lopez’s 22 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists.  These were some big wins for the Nets as they proved they weren’t the worst team in history.  This year may have been ugly for the Nets, but the future is bright with Brook Lopez, Devin Harris, possibly the number 1 pick in the next draft, and $23 million to spend on a big-time free agency class coming up this offseason.

Chris Quinn has been pretty awful for the New Jersey Nets since coming over

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 25 March 2010 at 1:29 pm

Backup point guard Chris Quinn has been awful since coming over in the Rafer Alston trade with the Heat. Quinn has played in 19 games (0 starts) for the Nets this season and he is averaging 8.8 minutes, 2.4 points, 0.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Quinn is normally a good outside shooter but he is only making 36.6% of his shots from the floor this year. Until he starts shooting better Quinn will likely still see limited minutes.

Devin Harris is stepping up in March for the New Jersey Nets

It appears that starting point guard Devin Harris is finally starting to feel good this season. He has played in 10 games this March in which he is averaging 36.5 minutes, 20.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Harris has now played in 53 games (50 starts) for the Nets this season and he is averaging 34.9 minutes, 17.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Harris is only shooting 40.1% from the floor this season but it is getting better by the day.

Courtney Lee is finally get in gear for the New Jersey Nets this year

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 11 March 2010 at 6:08 pm

24-year old shooting guard Courtney Lee has caught fire in his last three games for the Nets averaging 41.7 minutes, 21.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game on 54.2% shooting from the floor. Lee has now played in 53 games (48 starts) this season for the Nets and he is averaging 33.5 minutes, 12.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Lee is playing really well lately and the Nets need him to keep up the good work so that they don’t set the NBA record for least wins in a season.

Cleveland Cavaliers 111, New Jersey Nets 92

The Cavs jumped the Nets 35-15 in the first quarter and they never looked back. The Nets only shot 39.3% from the floor and they didn’t play any defense as the Cavs shot 51.8% from the floor and that was a recipe for disaster last night. Brook Lopez led the way for the Nets last night with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists last night. Terrence Williams was outstanding off the bench for the Nets last night with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Yi Jianlian pitched in with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots last night. The Nets are now 6-54 on the year.
