The New Jersey Nets sign Jordan Farmar

The Nets have signed 23-year old point guard Jordan Farmar to a 3-year, $12 million dollar deal. Farmar played in 82 games (0 starts) for the Lakers last season and he averaged 18.0 minutes, 7.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He has now played in 301 games (2 starts) in his four years in the NBA and he has averaged 18.1 minutes, 6.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. Farmar will backup Devin Harris unless the Nets have a trade up their sleeves involving him.

The New Jersey Nets sign Johan Petro

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 10 July 2010 at 11:05 am

The Nets have signed 24-year old center Johan Petro to a 3-year, $10 million dollar deal. Petro played in 36 games (16 starts) for the Nuggets last season and he averaged 12.1 minutes, 3.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. He has now played in 306 games (120 starts) in his 5 years in the NBA and he has averaged 16.7 minutes, 5.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Petro will give Brook Lopez a decent backup to insure that he gets a break every night so I like this signing for the Nets.

The New Jersey Nets ink Anthony Morrow to a 3-year offer sheet

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 9 July 2010 at 11:28 pm

The Nets have signed 24-year old SG/SF Anthony Morrow to a 3-year, $12 million dollar offer sheet. Morrow played in 69 games (37 starts) for the Warriors last season and he averaged 29.2 minutes, 13.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He has now played in 136 games (54 starts) in his two years with the Warriors and he has averaged 26.0 minutes, 11.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. Morrow has hit 46% of his shots from behind the three point line in his NBA career as he is one of the best sharpshooters in the league. I really like this aggressive attempt at signing Morrow who is a restricted free agent meaning the Warriors have 7 days to either match the offer or lose him to New Jersey.

UPDATE: (7/13/2010) - The Nets have worked out a sign and trade deal with the Warriors for Morrow. They have sent a $4 million dollar trade exception to Golden State. I really like this move for the Nets as Morrow is a up and coming player.

The New Jersey Nets sign Travis Outlaw

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 8 July 2010 at 1:11 pm

The Nets have signed 25-year old small forward Travis Outlaw to a 5-year, $35 million dollar deal. He will be the Nets’ starting small forward barring a miracle signing of LeBron James later tonight. Outlaw played in 34 games (6 starts) for the Clippers & Blazers last season and he averaged 21.5 minutes, 9.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. He has now played in 400 games (32 starts) in his NBA career and he is averaging 21.6 minutes, 9.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. Outlaw is a 36.3% shooter from three point range in his career so he can put the ball in the basket. Outlaw has been biding his time playing off the bench waiting for his chance to show what he could do with big minutes and the Nets will give him that chance.
