The Nets only shot 36.5% from the floor last night and it did them in big time. Deron Williams led the way for the Nets in this game with 24 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Anthony Morrow also had a decent game with 14 points, 1 rebound and 1 steal. Jordan Farmar pitched in with 8 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in 20 minutes on the floor. The Nets are now 7-14 on the year.

Mehmet Okur has been a big disappointment so far this year for the New Jersey Nets

The Nets tried really hard to deal for Dwight Howard when the lockout was lifted. They paid so much attention to Howard, that all of the other free agent centers were signing with other teams. When the Magic decided to hold onto Howard at the start of the season, the Nets scrambled around for a center, before dealing for Deron Williams’ old buddy from Utah, Mehmet Okur. Okur has played in 17 games (14 starts) for the Nets so far this year and he is averaging 26.6 minutes, 7.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He has the reputation of being one of the better shooting centers in the NBA, but that has not been the case so far this season. Okur is hitting only 37.4% of his shots from the floor, 31.9% from three point range and 60% from the free throw line so far this year. The Nets have to hope that he gets better soon because they don’t have anyone better than him to replace him with.

New Jersey Nets 99, Cleveland Cavaliers 96

The Nets pushed the Cavs around most of last night, but they had to hold on for dear life late in the 4th quarter. Deron Williams (27 points, 2 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot) and Anthony Morrow (22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 blocked shot) led the way for the Nets in this game. Kris Humphries was a beast around the basket as he filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot. Jordan Farmar pitched in with 11 points, 7 assists and 1 steal off the bench last night. The Nets are now 7-13 on the year.

DeShawn Stevenson has been pathetic for the New Jersey Nets so far this year

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 26 January 2012 at 7:38 pm

30-year old SG/SF DeShawn Stevenson has been truly awful so far this year for the Nets. Stevenson has played in 17 games (8 starts) for the Nets so far this year and he is averaging 17.2 minutes, 2.9 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game. Stevenson is only shooting 25.9% from the floor and 28% (14 for 50) from three point range so far this year…..and that is putrid! The Nets can’t continue to play Stevenson if he doesn’t step up soon.

Jordan Farmar is heating up for the New Jersey Nets

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Steppin Up, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 26 January 2012 at 7:08 pm

25-year old PG/SG Jordan Farmar has really been playing well as of late for the Nets. In his last four games, Farmar is averaging 15.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. The Nets hope that isn’t a mirage as they have no issues with giving him a lot of P.T. as long as he keeps performing at a high level. Farmar has played in 17 games (0 starts) overall this year and he is averaging 19.6 minutes, 9.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He has been a real asset shooting the ball as he has nailed 23 of 50 (46%) shots from three point range so far this year.
