The New Jersey Nets waive Keyon Dooling

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Monday 28 June 2010 at 7:40 pm

The Nets have waived 30-year old PG/SG Keyon Dooling. Dooling played in 53 games (8 starts) for the Nets last season and he averaged 18.3 minutes, 6.9 points, 1.0 rebound and 2.5 assists per game. He played in 130 games (26 starts) in his two years with the Nets in which he averaged 23.6 minutes, 8.6 points, 1.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Dooling is a decent backup guard and he should have no problem finding a new job for the 2010-11 season.

The New Jersey Nets acquire forward Damion James from the Hawks

The Nets have acquired 22-year old forward Damion James (#24 overall) from the Hawks in return for guard Jordan Crawford (#27 overall) and center Tibor Pleiss (#31 overall). The Hawks then sold Pleiss to the Thunder. Damion James played in 34 games (all starts) at Texas last season and he averaged 18.0 points, 10.3 rebounds, 1.0 assist, 1.7 steals and 1.2 blocked shots per game. He finished his career at Texas having played in 140 games (all starts) in which he averaged 13.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.2 blocked shots per game. I really like this trade for the Nets as James is a very polished forward who will be able to work big minutes early in his career.

The New Jersey Nets trade Chris Douglas-Roberts to the Bucks

The Nets have traded 23-year old shooting guard Chris Douglas-Roberts to the Nets for a 2nd round pick in 2012. Douglas-Roberts played in 67 games (38 starts) last season for the Nets and he averaged 25.8 minutes, 9.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. He played in 111 games (41 starts) in his two years with the Nets and he averaged 20.8 minutes, 7.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. I don’t like this move for the Nets unless it’s part of a bigger plan to clear cap space to bring in free agents.

The New Jersey Nets sign Avery Johnson

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 10 June 2010 at 3:38 pm

The Nets have signed 45-year old Avery Johnson to be the new head coach. Details have not been released yet. Johnson last coached in 2007-08 with the Dallas Mavericks. Johnson has a career record of 194-70 (73.5) during the regular season. He is also 23-24 (48.9%) in the post season in his NBA career. He led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals during the 2005-06 where they were defeated 4-2 by the Heat. He won the Coach of the Year Award that season.

Kiki Vandeweghe gets relieved of his duties for the New Jersey Nets

Blogged under General, Comings & Goings, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Front Page by alleyoop on Sunday 23 May 2010 at 12:36 pm

One of the first things that new Nets’ owner Mikhail Prokhorov did was inform head coach Kiki Vandeweghe that his services were no longer needed. Vandeweghe came down from the front office to replace Lawrence Frank as the head coach in season and he was 12-52 (18.8%). Prokhorov probably wants a high profile coach who will help him lure free agents to New Jersey as they have a lot of cap space available.
