The New Jersey Nets lose Anthony Morrow

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Big Nets News, Need to step up, Front Page, Injuries by alleyoop on Wednesday 15 December 2010 at 6:48 pm

The Nets will be without starting shooting guard Anthony Morrow for the next 2-3 weeks due to a strained right hamstring. Morrow has played in 25 games (24 starts) for the Nets so far this year and he is averaging 34.1 minutes, 12.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. The Nets are probably going to miss Morrow’s outside shooting as he is hitting 41.1% from three point range so far this year. Jordan Farmar will likely replace Morrow in the starting lineup. Farmar has played in 25 games (2 starts) so far this year for the Nets and he is averaging 25.8 minutes, 10.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Farmar is only shooting 34.5% from the three point line and the Nets need him to shoot better than that so they don’t miss Morrow too much.

Troy Murphy continues to stink it up for the New Jersey Nets

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by admin on Monday 13 December 2010 at 3:01 pm

30-year old power forward appears to be in Avery Johnson’s Dog House.  Murphy has played in 11 games (4 starts) for the Nets this year and he is averaging 17.2 minutes, 3.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.  His shooting has also been way off this year as he is only hitting 29.8% from the floor, 15.8% from three point range and 63.6% from the free throw line.   When the Nets acquired Murphy from the Pacers over the summer, they envisioned him teaming up with Brook Lopez to help them rule the paint.  After all, Murphy did play in 72 games (69 starts) for the Pacers last season and he averaged 32.6 minutes, 14.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game.  Murphy shot 47.2% from the floor, 38.4% from three point range and 79.8% from the free throw line last season.  But with Kris Humphries continuing to play at a high level it might be hard for Murphy to get expanded playing time.

The New Jersey Nets insert rookie Damion James into the starting lineup

Blogged under Bloglockers, General, Big Nets News, Need to step up, Front Page, Rookie Report, Injuries by alleyoop on Thursday 9 December 2010 at 9:48 pm

The Nets have decided to replace Travis Outlaw at small forward with rookie Damion James. James has played in 16 games (0 starts) for the Nets so far this year and he is averaging 12.3 minutes, 3.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. James has only shot 33.3% from the floor so far this year and only 61.1% from the free throw line. James must be looking good in practice because he hasn’t played well enough to deserve a promotion. Travis Outlaw has played in 22 games (all starts) so far this year for the Nets and he is averaging 32.7 minutes, 10.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. The Nets expected more out of Outlaw and I’m sure he’s going to get another chance to start at some point unless James takes over.

UPDATE:  (12/13/2010) - James starting job at small forward was short lived.  He has underwent surgery on his right foot (which he broke) and he will be out indefinitely.  In his first NBA start he played 23 minutes for the Nets and he finished with 4 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal.

UPDATE II (12/13/2010) - James will be out the next 6-8 weeks due to the surgery he had.

The New Jersey Nets need Brook Lopez to pick it up

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 27 November 2010 at 10:30 am

22-year old center Brook Lopez appears to be turning soft so far this year. He has played in 15 games (all starts) so far this year for the Nets and he is averaging 35.4 minutes, 18.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.7 blocked shots per game. Lopez is only shooting 43.5% from the floor and he averaged over 8 rebounds per game in his first two years in the NBA. The Nets need to get tough again and start mixing it up under the basket.

The New Jersey Nets send Terrence Williams to the D-League

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Big Nets News, Need to step up, Front Page by alleyoop on Saturday 27 November 2010 at 9:13 am

The Nets have sent 23-year old SG/SF Terrence Williams to the Springfield Armor of the D-League for repeated violations of team policy. Williams has played in 8 games (0 starts) for the Nets this season and he is averaging 19.9 minutes, 6.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He has now played in 86 games (9 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 22.4 minutes, 8.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Head coach Avery Johnson has sent former first round pick Terrence Williams and the rest of the Nets a lesson, that B.S. is not going to be tolerated on his watch.

UPDATE: (12/8/2010) - The Nets have brought back Terrence Williams from the D-League. He played in 3 games in the D-League and he averaged 28.0 points, 11.3 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game. He is likely to rejoin the rotation starting tonight but Avery Johnson isn’t going to put up with any more crap out of him going forward.
